Alleged Child Abusers Released

By Iceland Review

Two men who were placed under custody on suspicion of having sexually abused a young boy, to whom they are father and uncle, were released earlier this month.

According to Fridrik Smári Björgvinsson, senior officer at the Capital Region Police, there was not considered to be a reason to extend the custody, neither for the interest of the investigation nor public interest, Fréttabladid reports.

The men were questioned but maintained their innocence. Police reviewed computers and computer data that were confiscated when their homes were searched upon their arrest on suspicion that they contained material showing children being abused sexually.

Björgvinsson said no such material had been found but the investigation will continue.
