All Roads (Do Not) Lead To Bárðarbunga

The Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration has closed nearly all of the roads leading to Bárðarbunga. It has also closed roads that go along the banks of the glacial river Jökulsá á Fjöllum, which may flood due to glacial ice melting in the event of the eruption.

They have closed roads F88, F862, F864, F905, and F910, which take you to the site of the eruption.

Sigrún Herdísardóttir of the local police told Iceland Review that search and rescue volunteers were combing the area on foot, by motorcycle and by car for travelers. Police are making a record of all people who leave the area to ensure that everyone is accounted for.
