All but One Phone Booth to Close in Iceland

Thirteen out of 14 phone booths still in operation in Iceland will be closed in the coming weeks. The last remaining phone booth will be on Lækjargata, opposite Lækjartorg square in the heart of Reykjavík.

In an interview with daily Morgunblaðið, Gunnhildur Arna Gunnarsdóttir, the spokesperson for telecom company Síminn, which runs the booths, said that hardly anyone uses the booths anymore.

The number of phone booths in Iceland peaked nine years ago, in 2004, when there were 485.
