The aluminium smelter at Straumsvík operated by Canadian based Alcan has potentially suffered billions of Icelandic króna in losses because of a failure in a power station according to Fréttabladid.
In addition to other costs, it is estimated that Alcan will lose 20 thousand tons of production because of the failure.
The National Power company will also lose money because of foregone revenues, but a spokesperson declined to estimate how much.
