The project “Exercise and Outdoor Activities” was launched by sport unions in Iceland’s northern capital Akureyri yesterday, aimed at giving locals the opportunity to participate in various fitness programs for free until next summer.
According to Morgunbladid, people were eager to participate in the courses on offer, including yoga and curling at the ice rink. Others played in football or took walks together.
The idea behind the project was to lighten the mood of people who had lost their jobs with free exercise, as described on akureyri.net. The organizers then decided not to limit the initiative to the unemployed but make it free for everyone to encourage a healthier lifestyle.
