By Iceland Review

Yesterday at 2 pm visitor number 100,000 of this skiing season, Sigrídur Jónsdóttir from Húsavík, entered the Hlídarfjall ski resort in Akureyri. She was presented with a free skiing pass for next winter and a plane ticket to Reykjavík with Air Iceland, which is one of Hlídarfjall’s supporters.

Visitor No. 100,000, Sigrídur Jónsdóttir (left), accepts her award from Hlídarfjall director Gudmundur Karl Jónsson.

The weather in Akureyri has been very good for skiing this season. The season began on November 28 and there is still plenty of snow on the slopes of Hlídarfjall. Yesterday it was sunny on the mountain and the temperature was around zero, a press release states.

Next weekend, April 30 to May 2, is the last weekend Hlídarfjall will be open this season. The slopes will be open on Friday from 1 pm to 9 pm and on Saturday and Sunday from 9 am to 3 pm.
