Akureyri International Music Festival Coming Up

The fourth annual Akureyri International Music Festival (AIM Festival) will take place during the Whitsun Weekend, May 28 to 31. The program includes musicians of different genres and one young north Icelandic band—the winner of a pre-festival competition.

The competition will take place on May 21 and the winner, in addition to earning a slot at the festival, will be provided with free recording hours at a studio.

Other performers include Bob Mintzer and the Reykjavík Big Band (in cooperation with the Reykjavík Arts Festival, which kicks off next Friday), the recently founded Akureyri Big Band, Megas og Senuthjófarnir, Retro Stefson, Hjálmar and Mótettukór choir of Hallgrímskirkja church.

Tickets for all festival-related events will be available on midi.is beginning May 13 along with a so-called “green pass,” which grants admission to all events. For further information on the AIM Festival, visit the festival’s website.
