Akureyri’s Only Cock at Town Council Meeting

A rather unusual guest attended a meeting of the town council in Akureyri, north Iceland, yesterday when a resolution on the keeping of livestock within town limits was discussed: it was Hrólfur, the town’s only rooster.

Hrólfur was accompanied by its owner Sigurvin Jónsson, who had been asked by a town council member of Bæjarlistinn to bring the rooster along to the meeting, ruv.is reports.

The plan is to ban the keeping of cocks within town limits but Hrólfur’s life is not in danger as the ban won’t be made retroactive.

According to Mayor of Akureyri Eiríkur Björn Björgvinsson, the rooster demonstrated model behavior and mostly remained quiet.
