Air Iceland Goes Pink

To raise awareness for the initiative “On Everyone’s Lips” domestic airline Air Iceland has marked one of its 50 Fokker airplanes with pink letters. The purpose of the initiative is to raise money with the sale of lip gloss to support breast cancer research.

The profits from the sale of the Yves Saint Laurent lip gloss go towards purchasing a new digital X-ray equipment for diagnosing breast cancer.

The initiative was launched in early May and after one month nearly 20,000 lip glosses had been sold, according to Air Iceland.

“We are thrilled about how well the initiative has been received, […] we thought it would be realistic to expect to sell 10,000 glosses so it is incredible that we’ve sold almost the double amount in only one month,” said one of the initiative’s organizers Gróa Ásgeirsdóttir. “But we are not stopping here.”

The special Yves Saint Laurent lip gloss will be available for purchase onboard Icelandair planes for the next three months as well as in the duty free stores of Air Iceland in Reykjavík and Akureyri and at the Cancer Society.

The initiative is sponsored by the wholesale firm Heildverslun Halldórs Jónssonar, Saga Boutique and Air Iceland.
