A series of events which go by the collective title of “Advent Adventure in Akureyri” and started with the lighting of the Christmas tree last weekend will take place in the north Icelandic town throughout December.

The program includes concerts, a Christmas market, book readings, a demonstration of Christmas traditions at the turf house museum Laufás, Christmas dance, plays and a sing-along with the 13 Icelandic Santas.
Related exhibitions take place inside the Akureyri Museum and Fridbjarnarhús, where old toys will be on display.

At the new culture house Hof, an exhibition of works of art and design by Hugrún Ívarsdóttir inspired by laufabraud, the north Icelandic Christmas bread, is running until January.

Among the exhibits are glass sculptures measuring 150 centimeters in diameter. Ívarsdóttir also operates a laufabraud center in Akureyri.
