Þórir Kjartansson, resident of Vík í Mýrdal, South Iceland, managed to catch a precious family moment on tape of a fox and her seven curious little cubs. “I caught them just as they were sticking their noses out from the den for the first time,” Þórir told Vísir. His video has received much attention on social media.
Þórir pays close attention to the wildlife in the area and often has his camera at the ready. This is the third spring in a row that he has seen foxes in the same den. He says, however, that the adult fox is not the same one as in previous years; those fell into the hands of hunters. He had to be quick to get the video before arousing the suspicion of hunters.
“In the old days, there were rarely more than three cubs at a time,” Þórir stated, touching on the fertility of the foxes in the valley. When he was a young man, sighting a fox den was very rare, but since then, foxes have become more common in the area.
