Acrobatic Whale Off Iceland’s North Coast

A humpback whale entertained a group of whale-watchers off the north coast of Iceland last weekend by jumping between 200 and 300 times out of the water over a two to three hour period, close enough for water to splash on the faces of spectators. At one point it even waved a fin at the spectators, reported in RÚV yesterday.

A British documentary maker, Michael Brennan, who was among the tour guests, managed to get remarkable footage of the whale jumping whole out of the water. Curiously enough, Brennan also managed to capture footage of a whale swimming up the Thames river in London last spring.
