A man fell 50 meters when working on the construction of Kárahnjúkar dam in east Iceland on Thursday. He is now in intensive care in Reykjavík.
The man is being kept unconscious and on a ventilator at the National Hospital. He suffered injuries to his chest and abdomen and underwent immediate surgery. His condition is stable, Fréttabladid reports.
The man would probably have died had he not been wearing a thick leather uniform and if his colleagues and local doctors had not reacted as quickly as they did.
