A Presidential Candidate a Day

By Iceland Review

Hardly a day goes by without a new candidate announcing his or her presidential bid. Since Thursday, five people have announced they’re running, bringing the total number of candidates to 12, according to Vísir.

On Thursday, Halla Tómasdóttir, 47, MBA, announced that she’s running for president. She is a co-founder of Auður Capital.

On Friday, Bæring Ólafsson, born in 1955, former COO of Coca-Cola Bottlers Philppenes, Inc., announced his bid. He is from Patreksfjörður, the West Fjords. He has extensive experience in business in the US, Europe and Asia.

Saturday was uneventful.

On Sunday, Hrannar Pétursson, whose background includes working as a reporter, a PR person, and a project manager at the office of the prime minister, declared he was running. That was at 11 am.

At 11:46 am, Vísir reported that Guðmundur Franklín Jónsson, who has a business degree and is the former head of the Right-Green People’s Party, had announced his bid.

No one declared a candidacy yesterday.

Today, Guðrún Margrét Pálsdóttir, a registered nurse and one of the founders of ABC Children’s Aid, Iceland, declared her intention to run.

The list could get longer. RÚV reports that nine more people are considering a run for the presidency.
