Distribution sales of the Icelandic movie “A Little Trip to Heaven,” starring Forest Whitaker and Julia Stiles, have increased since it was selected to screen at the Sundance Movie Festival last week, reports Morgunbladid; the film has now been sold to over 40 countries.
According to Morgunbladid the distribution contracts are bigger in scope than previously seen for an Icelandic movie. A contract with Spain’s Eurocine Films entails that the film will open in 100 movie theaters and that tens of millions will be invested in promotions and marketing. The film has already been sold to all of the Nordic countries, to countries in the Middle East and to Brazil. Negotiations are underway with distributors in the U.S., U.K. and elsewhere.
Morgunbladid reports that the film will be will screen in the “premieres section” of he Sundance Film Festival which according to Morgunbladid is a great honor for the director since the “premieres section” only shows films that are thought to have great promise and by directors who have already made a name for themselves.
A Little Trip to Heaven”, written and directed by Baltasar Kormakur, and co-written by, Iceland Review staff writer, Edward Weinman, opens in Iceland on December 26th.
