A List of 40 Eruptions in Iceland since 1910

Now that there are many indications that the eruption in Eyjafjallajökull may be coming to an end many may be thinking whether they may have missed their last chance of seeing an eruption in Iceland. History seems to indicate it is not so.

The Icelandic Met Office gives a list of 42 eruptions in Iceland since 1902. The list may not be complete. Many small eruptions were not noticed before modern equipment was available. The subaquatic eruption in 1973 is little known in Iceland and there may be many others that are unknown.
