The most unusual bathing place in Iceland, a natural pool to the north-east of the newly formed lava at Holuhraun in the 2014-15 eruption, has now disappeared.
After the eruption 35-40 degrees C hot water flowed from underneath the lava, forming a natural hot tub, which was quite popular, mbl.is reports.
Now, the lava has cooled considerably and the flow of water is less than before. The water has also cooled down to a mere 16 degrees C, according to Sigurður Erlingsson a local park ranger. Sigurður says that Jökulsá glacial river seems to have rediscovered her old waterbed and moved east. One of the fears during the eruption was that the lava might have a permanent impact on the river flow.
