Reykjavík District Court sentenced four men to prison yesterday for a vicious assault on seven inhabitants of an apartment in the Reykjavík suburb of Breidholt in March this year. They arrived in two cars armed with an ax, bats and other weapons.
According to Fréttabladid, the attack was motivated by a stolen laptop.
The victims stated that the attackers had ordered them not to defend themselves and if they tried, they received heavier blows. After attacking the inhabitants, the men wrecked the apartment.
Some of the accused maintained their innocence throughout the case and others changed their story along the way. They were, however, all found guilty and will serve a sentence of between two and a half and three and a half years.
The attackers also have to pay ISK 4.7 million (USD 40,000, EUR 30,000) in compensation to their victims and about the same amount in legal costs.
