In a statement from the police department it was stated that yesterday morning a woman was brought to the emergency room at the University Hospital Landsspítali in Fossvogur due to bleeding and abdominal pains.

“Although the woman did not believe she was pregnant, doctors think the bleeding and the abdominal pains were caused by miscarriage,“ the police told Morgunbladid.

Doctors confirmed their suspicion and discovered the woman had given birth in the last twenty-four hours prior to seeking medical help. The police were alerted and immediately began investigating and searching for the child. They found a newborn child in a dumpster by a hotel where the woman is an employee; it was confirmed she had been at the hotel yesterday morning. The child was deceased when discovered but it is thought the child was born alive.

The police are still interrogating the subjects involved in the case.
