A day in the life of the president

The president of Iceland, Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson and his wife, Dorrit Moussaieff, will go on a official trip to the township of Hafnarfjördur today. Hafnarfjördur is less than one mile from their residence Bessastadir.

According to media reports the day begins with mayor Ludvík Geirsson welcoming the couple to the town at 9 a.m. this morning; the welcoming committee includes children from the day care center Nordurberg. The couple will then visit Hrafnista, a home for senior citizens, and inspect the new rehabilitation center there; from Hrafnista, they will then drive to the new Valla neighborhood to view the ongoing construction.

After viewing the construction in the Valla neighborhood the president and his wife will visit a day care center and eat lunch at an elementary school. After lunch the schedule includes visits to a community center for senior citizens, a high school, Hafnarfjördur’s museum of historical artifacts, the Bjarkar-house and a shopping mall. The day concludes with a family celebration at the athletics center by Strand Street later this evening.
