A Black Day at the Market

Stock prices generally went down today in Iceland. The Icex-15 index went down by 2.09%, and only two companies went up, Nyherji (computer software, hardware) 2.2% and Grandi (fishing) 1.3%. FL-Group went down by 4.8%, Landsbanki by 4.3% and Dagsbrún (telecommunications and publishing) by 3.2%. Kaupthing Bank went down by 2.2%, and Glitnir Bank by 2.4%.

The Icelandic krona also weakened today by 1.8%. The dollar sold at ISK 76.75, the euro at ISK 94.3, and the British pound at ISK 136.4. The krona has not been so weak since May 2002.
