A Baby Born During the Earthquake

A mother at Iceland’s national hospital was in the throws of labor during yesterday’s earthquake. Her baby boy took his first breath 15 minutes after the quake. His parents Ólafur Eyjólfsson and Berglind María Kristinsdóttir imminently gave their son the nickname Eyjólfur Skjálfti (Eyjólfur the Earthquaker)

“He just came into this world with a big bang, just like an earthquake” the father, Ólafur Eyjólfsson told Morgunbladid. “I thought I was just shaking myself because I was watching,” he added.

The mother, Berglind María Kristinsdóttir, said it had been very odd to give birth during an earthquake but she never grew frightened during the entire ordeal. “I found it just normal” Kristinsdóttir told Morgunbladid and laughed.
