Minister of agriculture, Gudni Ágústsson, has spent ISK 800 million on the Icelandic horse in his term as minister reports the Icelandic national Broadcasting Service, RÚV. According to RÚV, from the year 2000, ISK 130 million have been allocated to the Icelandic horse every year.
In an interview with the horse magazine Eidfaxi, Gudni says, “It is clear that a lot of money has gone to this cause, but I believe that we have received much more back.” He says that the ISK 800 million figure includes financing of horse breeding,veterinarian research and support of the Icelandic Horse Center in Skagafjördur.
