69 Nominated for Icelandic Citizenship

The Judicial Affairs Committee of the Icelandic parliament has proposed 69 individuals be granted Icelandic citizenship before the parliament adjourns for summer break, RÚV reports. The cases of the individuals vary greatly. Nargiza Salimova, one woman on the list, is from Kyrgyzstan. Nargiza was scheduled to be deported from Iceland today, but as she is likely to receive citizenship shortly, the deportation was suspended.

The Judicial Affairs Committee received 147 applications for citizenship during this period. The youngest of the 69 individuals on the list of proposals is Lester Search, born in Kenya in 2006. The oldest is Joseph Mancilla, born in 1947 in the United States.
