600 laid off by the US-led Iceland Defense Force

Six hundred employees of the US – led Iceland Defense Force received letters of termination yesterday. Most will be laid off from September 30th, or six months from now. According to Morgunbladid further lay-offs of 200 – 300 people, can be expected at companies that serve the Defense Force such as contractors.

A service center to assist those people that have been given notice has been set up in Reykjanesbæ. It was not known whether the employees would have any work duties over the next six months but they will get their paychecks, reported Morgunbladid.
