400 Icelandic Women with PIP Silicone Breast Implants

The Directorate of Health in Iceland advises women who are worried about their breast implants to contact their plastic surgeon to get information on what to do after one type was found to be dangerous and taken off the market.

So-called Poly Implant Prosthese (PIP) breast implants have been used in Iceland for two decades and approximately 400 women have such implants according to ruv.is. Plastic surgeons that performed such operations will send letters to their clients explaining the possible risks involved.

Silicon implants?

In Europe such implants have been taken off the market after it was found that the silicon filling in them was considered unsafe, However, it is stressed that according to research by French doctors, no connection between the silicon and cancer has been found.
