20 per cent of Icelanders die from smoking

The Icelandic National Broadcasting Service, RÚV, that smoking kills one out of every five Icelanders who die before the age of 80 and one out of every three people who die before reaching 40. All in all, 260 people die because of smoking in Iceland every year.

Marginally fewer women die from smoking than men.

20 per cent of all Icelanders smoke, down from 36 per cent two decades ago and 27 per cent a decade ago.
