According to a story prominently featured in the Icelandic media today, two men kidnapped a 19 year old girl early Monday morning and attempted to rape her.
As described by Morgunbladid, the 19 year old girl was driving from Reykjavík to Mosfellsbaer on Vesturlandsvegur at 2 am Monday morning when a man signaled her from the side of the road as if he was in need of help. She stopped to investigate, and the man then hit her on the head, and she passed out. When she came to, she found herself in the backseat of her car pinned down by her attacker, and another man was driving the car down a backroad. The driver lost control of the car, and it went off the road. Her attacker tried to undress her but she struggled and the two men eventually fled. She then called the police using her mobile phone.
The girl suffered bruises and cuts but is otherwise unhurt.
“I am just really irritated and somehow numb all over my body,” she said to Morgunbladid. “I can’t really describe it, it is such a funny feeling. All I thought about the whole time was to get away. And then I constantly think about what would have happened if the car had not gone off the road. I also think about that I should not have stopped. I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. This was a kidnapping, an attempted rape, a robbery and an assault. It is incredible that this should happen in Iceland,” said the girl to Morgunbladid.
The two kidnappers have not yet been found.
