16-year old “wanted to kill a man”

A 16-year old arrested by police last week in connection with a stabbing incident in Reykjavík has shocked the Icelandic nation by telling police that he purposely set out to meet with his victim because he “wanted to see what it was like to kill a man”. The two men met online and arranged a meeting. The aggressor stabbed the victim before fleeing, leaving the knife embedded in the victim’s back. The victim was able to remove the knife and drive himself to hospital. This was reported in all the main media.

The 16-year old has been remanded in custody. A psychiatrist at the Sogn criminal psychiatric unit is quoted by RÚV online as saying that the aggressor may have suffered from delusions resulting from excessive use of computer games and video, but that the exact causes of the incident are unknown.
