Only 1,000 people hold almost all the individually owned equity in Icelandic companies, according to Morgunblaðið. This group owns over 98 percent of all equity capital held by individuals in Iceland.
The numbers come from a Creditinfo report carried out for Morgunblaðið. The data also shows that the nation’s 10 wealthiest individuals hold nearly one third of total equity in Icelandic companies which are in the hands of individuals.
Individually owned equity in Icelandic companies totals around ISK 1.200 billion (USD 11.4 billion/EUR 9.6 billion).
