“Schoolbag Days” Held in Iceland

The Occupational Therapist Association of Iceland is organizing special “Schoolbag Days” next week, September 22 to 26, during which occupational therapists will visit elementary schools and educate students on how they should carry their bags.

When the “Schoolbag Days,” which are modeled on an American initiative, were held in Iceland last year they were considered successful.

Fifty-two occupational therapists and aspiring occupational therapists visited 118 classes in 38 schools, presented the right way to carry schoolbags and then weighed each child and their bags to estimate whether the weight of the bag was suitable.

The association is also participating in the initiative “Walk to School” that was launched this month to encourage students and parents to travel to school in a safe and physically active way.
