The Icelandic national team in women’s football met Estonia in the qualifying round for the 2011 World Cup on Laugardalsvöllur stadium in Reykjavík yesterday, winning the game with 12 goals against zero. That is a new goal record for the Icelandic team.
The previous record was set in a game against Poland in 2003 when Iceland boasted a 10-0 victory, Fréttabladid reports.
Yesterday, Margrét Lára Vidarsdóttir and Hólmfrídur Magnúsdóttir, who scored a hat trick each, and captain Katrín Jónsdóttir, who scored two goals, where the game’s most successful shooters.
The game against Estonia was Iceland’s first since competing at the European Cup in Finland, which ended with Germany as champions earlier this month.
