The film crew of “Burial Rites” has visited Húnaþing vestra municipality, North Iceland, several times in order to explore the possibility of shooting there, RÚV reports.
According to RÚV’s sources, the crew has primarily been exploring the Vatnsnes peninsula and Vatnsdalur valley, where the novel is set, and are amazed at how little has changed in the area since 1830.
The upcoming film is based on Australian author Hannah Kent’s 2013 novel of the same name. It tells the story of Agnes Magnúsdóttir, the last woman to be executed in Iceland. Jennifer Lawrence is to play the lead role of Agnes.
