“Back Home” Wins Icelandic Eurovision Finals

The song “Aftur heim” (“Back home”) by Sigurjón Brink and Thórunn Erna Clausen received the most votes via the televoting in the Icelandic Eurovision finals on Saturday and will be Iceland’s contribution to the Eurovision Song Context in Düsseldorf, Germany in May.

The song was performed by Gunnar Ólafsson, Vignir Snaer Vigfússon, Pálmi Sigurhjartarson, Matthías Matthíasson, Hreimur Örn Heimisson and Benedikt Brynleifsson, mbl.is reports.

Brink had originally planned to perform the song himself but unexpectedly passed away shortly before the competition. His widow, Thórunn Erna Clausen, who had written the song with him decided to keep the song in the competition and asked Brink’s friends to perform it.

The runner-up was “Ég trúi á betra líf” (“I believe in a better life”) by Hallgrímur Óskarsson, Eiríkur Hauksson and Gerard James Borg, performed by Magni Ásgeirsson, the Icelandic Rock Star Supernova contestant.
