The nationwide campaign to get Icelanders to vote for Magni Ásgeirsson, a contestant on American TV show Rock Star Supernova, clearly delivered results, as Magni was the only contestant of the six remaining who was never at risk of being eliminated from the competition. This is reported in all the main media.
As reported on this site yesterday, Icelanders ‘stood by their man’ in the early hours of Wednesday morning when voting took place after the Supernova broadcast. Telecommunications companies lowered their rates for SMS votes, advertisements were taken out in many of the papers urging Icelanders to stay up and vote, and in east Iceland a tent was set up where people could watch the live broadcast.
The total number of votes cast on Wednesday night was double the previous record, according to Supernova’s organizers. The show’s rules stipulate no limit to the number of votes that may be cast by a single voter.
