The film is competing against ten other films for the prize: I’m So Excited! (Spain), Anna Karenina (U.K.), The Best Offer (Italy), The Broken Circle Breakdown (Belgium), The Gilded Cage (Portugal), The Impossible (Spain), Kon-Tiki (Norway), Oh Boy! (Germany), Searching for Sugar Man (U.K.) and Love is All You Need (Denmark).

Baltasar told visir.is that he was excited about being in the competition and encouraged Icelanders to vote.

The Deep took home 11 Icelandic Film and Television Awards (Eddas) earlier this year and was among films on the final list of eligible submissions for a 2013 Oscar nomination.

The European Film Awards will be held on December 7 in Berlin.
