‘Rams’ to Compete at Oscars

The film Hrútar (Rams) has been selected to be Iceland’s contribution to the Oscars next year, RÚV reports. It will compete in the category Best Foreign Language Film.

Hrútar got the majority of votes cast electronically by the Icelandic Film and TV Academy (ÍKSA), in which five films competed.

Grímur Hákonarson directed the film and wrote the script, but the producer is Grímar Jónsson. The movie has competed at three film festivals and won four awards, among them Un Certain Regard Award at the Cannes Film Festival.

In Icelandic theaters, Hrútar scores highest among all Icelandic movies in ticket sales this year.
