Warning: Ice Caves in Iceland Could Collapse

The Vatnajökull National Park has issued a warning regarding the seasonal weakening of the walls of ice caves in Vatnajökull glacier. The ice caves are unique and very popular tourist attractions, visited by thousands of tourists in Southeast Iceland in the wintertime.

As the days get longer and temperatures rise in early spring, the caves become very dangerous places to enter, for their ceilings and walls could collapse.

The ice cave season runs from late November through the middle of March.
