 Iceland is Out of Eurovision

Iceland dropped out of the Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm last night. Out of the 18 contestants in the first semi-finals, only 10 made it to the Grand Final on Saturday night. Songs from the following countries made it to the Grand Final: Azerbaijan, Russia, The Netherlands, Hungary, Croatia, Austria, Armenia, Czech Republic, Cyprus and Malta.

Greta Salóme Stefánsdóttir, who represented Iceland with the song ‘Hear Them Calling,’ was surprised with the result. She told RÚV she felt very well on the stage and that there had been a lot of energy in the audience. But, she said, there are certain things you can’t control, such as who you compete against. “The only thing you can control is to perform as well as you possibly can, and I think that’s what we did tonight,” she remarked.

The final competition will be broadcast live on RÚV, starting at 7 pm Saturday night.
