A thick blanket of snow covers most of North and East Iceland, RÚV reports. Many roads are closed and travel is difficult across the area.
The white weather caused some minor accidents in Akureyri this morning. A bus that had gotten stuck in the snow cause a bottleneck in the town of 18,000. Temperatures in the region are expected to drop to -18°C (0°F).
Police in Northeast Iceland encouraged residents to consider how they get around, as driving is a challenge in many areas. The officer on duty told RÚV that walking would be the best choice for most residents.
Though the Reykjavík capital area has seen few flakes this season, the region also has snow in the forecast tonight. Travellers are advised to check weather and road conditions before setting out.
