A hiker in mt. Kirkjufell fell to his death just after 10 AM this morning, according to an announcement by the police of West Iceland. The man, a tourist of foreign nationality, was separated from his group and fell off a cliff from a considerable height, Vísir reports. When his body was found, he was already dead.
Specialised mountain rescuers were sent to Kirkjufell by helicopter but strong winds by the mountain kept them from reaching the mountain by helicopter. Additional help from search-and-rescue teams was requested for moving the body from the steep mountain. The police are investigating what led to the accident.
