Island befindet sich immer noch auf der Liste der EU-Beitrittskandidaten, berichtet Nútíminn. Am vergangenen Freitag hatte eine Meldung die Runde gemacht, dass Island auf der Webseite der EU-Kommission nicht länger auf der Liste der Beitrittskandidaten stehe.

Winterliche Straßenbedingungen auch weiterhin

Auf den Bergstraßen und viele andere Straßen in den Westfjorden, in Nordisland und den Ostfjorden hat es in der vergangenen Nacht geschneit, wodurch es zu winterlichen Fahrbedingungen gekommen ist. Vielerorts sind die Straßen glatt, auch heute muss mit Regen und Schneematsch gerechnet werden.

Police Evacuate Building due to Suspected Shooter

Reykjavík Metropolitan Police closed off a large area surrounding the apartment complexes on Hlíðarhjalli 51-55 in Kópavogur yesterday and forced the evacuation of the building’s 150 inhabitants. Police suspected that a man was shooting from a shotgun from his apartment on Hlíðarhjalli 53. However, following a six-hour siege, the police broke into the apartment only to find it empty, mbl.is reports.

One Sister Claims Innocence in Extortion Case

In an interview with the media yesterday, Malín Brand asserted her innocence of the attempted extortion of Prime Minister of Iceland Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson. She claimed that her involvement in the case was limited to being present in the car with her sister, Hlín Einarsdóttir, when the latter drove to south of Hafnarfjörður on Friday to pick up the money, and where police special forces were waiting in ambush.

Snowfall on Roads across North Iceland

Mountain passes and many other roads in the West Fjords, North Iceland and the East Fjords were subject to snowfall last night, causing snowy and slippery driving conditions. The Icelandic Met Office has forecasts sleet or rain in North and East Iceland today.
