Seven Icelandic Design Projects Receive Grants

Seven diverse projects by Icelandic designers received grants from the Aurora Design Fund at its 12th annual distribution ceremony on Tuesday, three of which were in fashion design. Fifty entries were made. The jury seeks to select projects which are thought to be constructive for society.

National Hospital to Get More State Funding

ISK 1 billion (USD 8.1 million, EUR 6.5 million) in state funding will go towards Landspítali National University Hospital in addition to the amount reserved for the hospital in the 2015 budget bill, as reported yesterday. Director of Landspítali Páll Matthíasson celebrates the news.

63 große Beben erschütterten Bárðarbunga

Insgesamt 63 Erdbeben mit einer Stärke von mehr als 5.0 Punkten ereigneten sich zwischen dem 16. August und dem 25. November im und um den Vulkan Bárðarbunga unter dem Gletscher Vatnajökull. In jüngster Zeit ist die Häufigkeit solch großer Beben zurückgegangen.

Der 48-Stunden-Streik von Chirurgen und Psychiater am Landes- und Universitätsklinikum Landspítali in Reykjavík dauert heute noch bis Mitternacht an. Zur gleichen Zeit, als der Streik begann, beendeten Ärzte anderer Abteilungen ihre 48-stündige Arbeitsniederlegung.

New IR Photo of Holuhraun Lava River

Iceland Review editor and photographer Páll Stefánsson flew over the volcanic eruption in Holuhraun, the northeastern highlands yesterday. It was Páll’s fifth trip to the eruption site. He observed a red hot river of lava flowing through blackened lava fields.
