Eruption Alert Remains at Level ‘Orange’

The Iceland Met Office reports that since midnight, over 1,100 earthquakes have been detected by sensors on and near Vatnajökull glacier. The dike does not appear to have migrated further north since noon. The Aviation Color Code remains at the ‘orange’ level for Bárðarbunga.

Update on Bárðarbunga, Cauldrons, Possible Flood and Askja

The cauldrons in Vatnajökull glacier near Bárðarbunga are 5-km (3-mile) long combined. Three larger earthquakes hit Bárðarbunga around midnight and this morning. A civil meeting with inhabitants near glacial river Skjálfandafljót in Northeast Iceland will be held tonight. The intrusive dike has reached the Askja volcanic system and is having an effect on the area.
