policecar_psPolice in Iceland have in recent years used electronic maps of the location of crime events in the country in investigations and planning. Currently, the maps are only accessible to the police but the head of the association of residents in central Reykjavík is calling for the maps to be made public and published online.

Earthquake Hits Vatnajökull Glacier

vatnajokull_psAn earthquake of the magnitude 3.1 hit four kilometers north-northeast of Kistufell on the northern rim of Vatnajökull glacier in the eastern highlands at noon yesterday. It occurred at a depth of five kilometers and could hardly be felt in inhabited areas.

Iceland Beats Albania 2-1 in Football

football-laugardalsvollur_psIceland strengthened its second place group standing in the 2014 World Cup qualifying build-up after a 2-1 victory over Albania in an away game on Friday. Gylfi Þór Sigurðsson proved the hero of the Icelandic team, scoring the winning goal straight from a free kick ten minutes before the end of the game. Iceland has now earned six points in the qualifying round.
