Plans for Hotel Tax Increase Unchanged

While currently among the lowest, the change would make the VAT on accommodation in Iceland the highest in Europe.

Reiseveranstalter spendet Geld für Bergungsteam

ofaerufoss_eldgja_psDer Touranbieter Reykjavík Excursions Kynnisferðir hat 300.000 ISK (1900 EUR) an die Bergungsteams von Skaftátunga in Südisland gespendet und seine Anerkennung gezeigt für die engagierte Suchaktion nach einer Touristin in der Eldgjá Ende August. Die Suche hatte sich später als unnötig herausgestellt.

State of Emergency Declared in North Iceland

storm_northiceland_landsbjorg_4The National Commissioner of the Icelandic Police’s Civic Protection Department has declared a state of emergency in Þingeyjarsýsla district in North Iceland. One hundred sheep perished in the storm and 13,000 are yet to be rounded up. Parts of the region are still without electricity after Sunday night’s storm.
