Northwest Iceland’s Seals Counted

sealcenter_hvammstangi_esaThe Icelandic Seal Center’s annual seal count along the approximately 100-meter long coastline of the capes Vatnsnes and Heggstaðarnes in northwest Iceland took place on Sunday. Much fewer seals were spotted than in last year’s count.

Earthquake Swarm in Northeast Iceland

grimsey-field-sheep_psA series of minor earthquakes, the largest with a magnitude of 3.7, hit 27-33 kilometers east-southeast of Grímsey, Iceland’s northernmost inhabited island, shortly after 7:45 pm yesterday. Most of the other quakes were around a magnitude of two.
