Icelandic Restaurant to Open in Orlando, Florida

saffran_topOne of Iceland’s more popular health food restaurant is to open in Orlando, Florida on Thursday. Saffran is a restaurant known for healthy food mostly made from fresh Icelandic produce and inspired by Middle Eastern cuisine; the first branch to open outside of Iceland will be in Orlando near the Florida Mall. The grand opening starts on Thursday and ends on Sunday.

Bicycle Paths Behind Schedule

bicycles_psPlans of constructing further bike paths in Reykjavík for 2010 to 2011 are behind schedule; constructions are pending an approval of the European Local Energy Assistance (ELENA) from the European Investment Bank. In addition to constructing more bike paths the city intends to use the money to convert the city buses to an eco-friendly fuel system. The plan is to use hydrogen but currently only a portion of the fleet is fuelled by hydrogen.

Thousands Attend Bank Holiday Festivals

westmanislands-vikingboat_ipaThousands attended bank holiday festivals held all over Iceland last weekend; the most popular festivals this year were the Westmann Islands’ Thjódhátíd, Akureyri’s Ein med öll, and Siglufjördur’s Síldaraevintýri or “Herring Adventure.” Approximately 32 thousands guests attended the three most popular festivals during the weekend.

60.000 Guns in Iceland
