EU to Adopt Iceland-Based Quota System

fish_ipaThe European Union is planning to change its fisheries policy so that it will be similar to the Icelandic quota system. A proposal on the new policy will be submitted in July. The finalized version of the new EU fisheries policy will be voted on in 2013.

Reykjavík Arts Festival Launched with Acrobatics

rvkartsfest2011-lafuraThe Catalonian multi-artist group La Fura dels Baus and more than 60 Icelandic daredevil volunteers practiced acrobatics at Austurvöllur square in downtown Reykjavík yesterday evening. They will launch the 2011 Reykjavík Arts Festival on the square with their one-time show tomorrow at 3 pm after the formal opening today.

Snowfall Interferes with North Iceland Spring

snowdrift-northeast_psIt is cold and wintery in many regions in north Iceland with snow on mountain roads. The police in Akureyri have warned drivers about slippery conditions on the Öxnadalsheidi mountain pass. A large truck ran half-way off the road there last night and is stuck but doesn’t obstruct traffic.
