Today is Labor Day

protests-althingi-2008-2009_goToday Iceland celebrates Labor Day, as is celebrated in many countries across Europe. It has been a national holiday in Iceland since 1966 and is one of the country’s 11 flag days. In Iceland the day was first celebrated with a demonstration on May 1, 1923.

Art Without Borders Festival Begins

art-without-borders2011The eighth annual Art Without Borders festival (List án landamaera), which celebrates diversity and participation of people with disabilities, opens in Reykjavík City Hall today. This year the festival will include a giant field of flowers, a five-meter tree guard, sewn abstract, stories in sign language and a song sculpture, a press release states.
